Hey there!
Let me tell you about Darlaston craft club. We started back in 2019, making poppies for Remembrance day. We were a creative bunch, using crochet and knitting to make the poppies. We even recycled plastic bottles to make poppy clusters. One of our members even made these adorable little wooden crosses with felt sequined poppies on them. They looked amazing scattered around the cenotaph. We used the poppies to decorate Darlaston town hall and the surrounding areas. It was a great feeling to see our hard work pay off.
As you know, Covid hit not long after our group had begun. We all had to stay home and craft from there. We provided poppy displays for community care packages, that were being sent out via the town hall during the pandemic. But when we were finally allowed to social distance, we made the decision, while being safe, to put the poppy displays back up, along with a blue poppy rainbow to commemorate all the hardworking NHS workers during the pandemic. It was a small gesture, but it meant a lot to us and the community.
In 2021-2022, we made purple poppies to honour all the animals in the war. We even created a purple poppy dog to be displayed at the town hall. It's amazing how much we've accomplished as a group and I'm so proud to be part of it. Crafting may seems a small thing, but it can make a big impact.
